Day 1 ... We traveled to NOLA in a perpetual rain storm - but God and our drivers got us here safely. We ate lunch in our vehicles in a gas station parking lot - got to be flexible! Arrived at 8 p.m. to our luxury accommodations!!! More later about Day 2....

Day 2 ... Still raining!!! Great Cathy Poe breakfast, wonderful church service at Aldersgate UMC. Ron Krieger flew in with President Obama! One group toured the French Quarter and enjoyed beignets and chickory coffee. Some of us spent 3 hours grocery shopping at WalMArt for the week. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Red Fish Grill. We got a big thank you for being here from the hostess. We are geared up to begin our work on Monday. This is a great group of missionaries with a great sense of humor. GOD IS GOOD!!!

Day 3 ... It is NOT RAINING! We had our orientation this morning and then off to the job site. We are working on a home in Lacombe, LA. We painted the entire inside of the house. We are all on the same job site. OOOPS, we got a wrong bucket of paint. Fortunately we only painted a few walls. We will fix that tomorrow. We got to meet our homeowner, Irma. She was very happy to see us and very thankful. The staff here at the Aldersgate facility (Ken & Susan) is awesome. They are going to show us how to lay laminate flooring tomorrow. Looking forwad to an awesome dinner from Chef Poe! God is good!

Day 4 ... Great day at work. Irma, the homeowner, came over for a visit. She is great and so thankful that we are here. She is going to fix lunch for us on Thursday. We learned a new skill today - laying laminate floors. It was a challenge at first, but we have mastered the task. We finished the painting first thing and cleaned up the dust and dirt. We were all tired, dirty and feeling truly blessed to be here.

Day 5 ... We spent today laying more flooring. We've completed 2 bedrooms and they look great. The weather was hotter today, but working inside out of the sun with a fan running makes it OK.
We quit work a bit early today and toured some of New Orleans. We visited the lower ninth ward. We could see improvement from 4 years ago - many more people back in their homes. It is still amazing that there is so much work still to do!
Cathy and Bill prepared us a great meal - and dessert was homemade blackberry cobbler with Blue Bunny ice cream. Ron Krieger picked the blackberries at our job site. We've enjoyed playing "Sequence" in the evening - it's a board/card game. We are looking forward to a good night's rest and a great day tomorrow.

Day 6 ...WOW, we got so much accomplished today. We have 3 bedrooms, the dining room and entry way completed. Tomorrow we will start on the living room and kitchen. Our leaders Susan and Ken are awesome. They are very encouraging and helpful. Susan is coming to dinner tonight - we are having ribs!!!! Irma, our home owner, had us to her house where she is living right now for lunch. She cooked us red beans and rice and corn bread muffins.YUMMY!!! The picture of the tree is because there is an owl in it - hopefully you can see it. We all feel so blessed to be here and are loving the time we are spending together. Thank you all for your prayers, they are definitely being answered. I'm happy to report that we have not even opened the first aid kit.

May 7 ... Our last day on the job. We really hustled in hopes of finishing the floor, but it just didn't happen. Ken & Susan, our leaders, were pleased with the amount we got done. Ron, Michele and Dave went to a different house this morning and sanded ceilings. We took Susan out to dinner tonight and enjoyed great food and good company. This evening we are having hot fudge sundaes and then packing. Early to bed and early to rise tomorrow for our departure to St. Louis. See you Sunday - look for us in our lime green shirts!
