Festival of Sharing – Readin’ and Writin’ Bags

KUMC is excited to be participating in Festival of Sharing this year.  Festival of Sharing is an interfaith, state-widecelebration and gathering of resources.  The goal is to promote and support projects and programs by providing funding and resource goods.  When people of faith come together and share, we can make a positive difference in the lives of people in need.

KUMC has been asked to provide “Readin’ & Writin’ Packs.” These packs will be distributed to teachers and students in need throughout Missouri.  The following items are needed to complete one pack: 6 new pencils with erasers, 2 – 70 page spiral notebooks, 1 pencil pouch, 4 folders with pockets, a 12 inch ruler, 1 pair of child-sized metal scissors, 1 large eraser, 1 box of 24 crayons, 1 box of 10 markers, and 2 ink pens.

You can donate one item or the supplies needed for an entire kit.  Take advantage of the back to school sales going on during the month of August. Drop your items off at the Mission Window, and we will assemble the kits for you. Here is what the finished kits will look like:
Contact Julie or Trina at KUMC Mission if you have any questions or would like to help with this project.
Celebrating our Wins in 2018!
January 2018
The Mission Focus of January was Home Sweet Home
Thanks to your generosity, 165 pillows were collected and delivered to Home Sweet Home.
A PJ’s Tavern and Plowshares Day was held on Janaury 22. Proceeds from that day and February’s “Souper- Bowl” Tortilla Soup sale the first weekend of the month, allowed Missions to purchase:
  • Flatware sets for Home Sweet Home
  • New soft blankets for KUMC’s Room at the Inn Ministry

February 2018
February’s Mission Focus was Epworth Children and Family Services. KUMC Missions collected 677 new underwear and socks at the Mission Window during the month to donate to Epworth’s Teen Ministry.
March 2018
March’s Mission was “I CAN”!  You were asked to bring canned food goods during the month of March to supply the pantries we support in St. Louis, and you responded!
April 2018
April’s Mission was “April Showers” . KUMC members donated 79 shower curtains, 59 shower curtain rings and 16 tension rods to supply Home Sweet Home to assist those moving out of homelessness into a furnished home.
May 2018
In May, KUMC Mission collected summer fun supplies for the children served by Kingdom House.  A collection of Floaties, Swim Diapers, Swim Googles, Sunglasses, Sunscreen, Water Toys, and Swim Suits were donated to Kingdom House.
June 2018
In June KUMC members volunteered to prepare meals for Kirkwood’s local SPROG camp.  SPROG summer camp started back in the 1970’s to give local children that might not be able to afford to attend a summer camp or have all day care a fun and positive summer place to go.  SPROG provides meaningful summertime activies, recreational fun, leadership training and also helps these youth maintain their academic proficiency during the school break.  Learn more about this great program in Kirkwood and how you can help here: SPROG
