KUMC Missions

The Church has left the building “Go and make disciples of all nations.”  – Matthew 28:19

We believe church isn’t over when you leave a worship service. At KUMC, we CONNECT with others both inside and outside of the church building as we GROW in our faith and SERVE God and others with love though mission and ministry.

Please join us as we leave the building and serve together!

Room at the Inn Needs Your Help August 1 – 2!
KUMC hosts the guests from Room At The Inn transitioning out of homelessness on the first Thursday of the month. The next event is August 1st-2nd and there are some open positions to fill. We’re so glad to have the space and resources to support these people in transition. Please help us show radical Christian hospitality by signing up to do laundry, drive the guests, or spend the night. July 2019

JULY BACKPACK BONAZA!!
Please consider donating a NEW backpack or two to the Mission Window through the month of July. LifeWise StL, Epworth, and the Meacham Park Neighborhood Association rely on KUMC to supply them with backpacks so they can provide their students with needed supplies to start the school year. Help us reach our goal of 450 backpacks!

Not sure what to buy? Don’t have time to go to the store to buy a backpack? Then stop by the Mission Window this weekend and purchase a backpack for $5 to donate to the collection. Pick out a backpack you like and for just $5 make your contribution on the spot at KUMC. Cash donations are also greatly appreciated to purchase additional backpacks to reach our goal.

Do you love to read? Can you share that passion with children in STL to help encourage a love for literature, and curb the summer learning loss?
Here’s a great summer program for you:

Freedom School Readers  Sign-Ups
Summer, May – July, 2019
Through the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools Program, LifeWise STL provides summer reading enrichment for children who might not otherwise have access to books and plays a much needed role in helping to curb summer learning loss and close achievement gaps. Volunteers are invited to participate in Harambee, which means “let’s pull together,” an up-lifting time filled with singing and chanting to get youth scholars excited for their day. Volunteers will choose a book that is meaningful to them, read the book aloud to participants, and answer questions about the importance of literacy in their lives.    LifeWise will have multiple sites, serving over 150 youth.  Please help by signing up to read for one (or more) of the 100+ shifts!

MARCH 2019:
Build a Dresser, Furnish Hope:
150th Anniversary Mission Project
Dressers are a high demand item for Home Sweet Home clients. To honor of our 150th anniversary, KUMC made a goal to build 150 IKEA dressers for Home Sweet Home to commemorate 150 years of ministry in our community and the world. Originally we thought it would take several build dates to accomplish this goal and planned to do about 3 or 4 different build dates on the Saturdays before The One Sunday services.

The first dresser build was April 6 – 7 and in memory of Chris Hendry, a former member of this church who possessed a big heart for helping those in n
eed. The goal is to build 26 dressers for his 26 years of life. But KUMC members responded in such a big way, that 125 dressers were built in the first weekend, exceeding our goal and practically completely the entire build in one weekend.
WAY TO GO KUMC!

JUNE MISSIONS :
Stock the Pantry
KUMC put out the call to stock the food pantry to help Community Pantries during the summer  months and collected 750 items to donate in the month of June!

Dresser Build #2
Thrivent Financial agreed to host a second dresser build at KUMC for Home Sweet Home. 125 more dressers were built on Saturday, June 29! Employees and their families from Thrivent worked alongside KUMC volunteers to get the job done!
