KUMC Missions

The Church has left the building “Go and make disciples of all nations.”  – Matthew 28:19

We believe church isn’t over when you leave a worship service. At KUMC, we CONNECT with others both inside and outside of the church building as we GROW in our faith and SERVE God and others with love though mission and ministry.

Please join us as we leave the building and serve together!

CURRENT MISSION PROJECT

November 2019

Room at the Inn is November 1 – Can you Help this Month?
November 1 is the first Thursday of the month and it’s time for Room at the Inn at KUMC. Are you available to take part in this once a month mission project that helps the homeless in our area? We’re asking for your help just this one month! You can help by setting up beds, driving to and from KUMC, staying overnight, preparing breakfast, or doing laundry. To volunteer, email Mary Konnesky, call or text her at 618.616-4202 or Go to Sign up Genius now to register to help November’s Room at the Inn.

Mission in Memory and Honor Dresser Build All Saints Weekend Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3

We would like to invite YOU to build a dresser in memory of someone you have lost or in honor of someone special to you. There are 3 ways you can participate:

  •  You can donate $40 to buy a dresser and build it yourself at the event. You don’t have to build alone; we can work together to build dressers.
  • You can purchase a dresser in honor or in memory of a loved one and have someone else will build it for you at the event.  If you do not wish to purchase a dresser, we invite you to come help build dressers donated by others.

Donations can be made online or by check at the Mission Window.  Go to Sign Up Genius NOW to sign up to build on November 2 or 3.

This furniture build will allow Home Sweet Home to provide a dresser to every child that walks through their doors.

WHAT OTHER MISSION WORK IS AVAILABLE
OUTSIDE OF KUMC?

Can’t get enough Mission Work, oh we can find somethings for you to do! Here you’ll find general information from the charitable groups we work with throughout the  year where you can pitch in and work a shift this week, or plan to attend one of their events or benefits to help raise funds for their services. Here’s what’s happening now:

Room at the Inn Needs Volunteers Every Month
KUMC hosts the guests from Room At The Inn transitioning out of homelessness on the first Thursday of the month. The next event is September 5 – 6 and there are some open positions to fill. We’re so glad to have the space and resources to support these people in transition. Please help us show radical Christian hospitality by signing up to set up beds, prepare a meal, do laundry, drive the guests, or spend the night. Email Mary Konnesky to volunteer.

Home Sweet Home
Home Sweet Home is an agency that provides home furnishings and the comforts of home through donations from the public to clients moving out of homelessness, and into a home of their own. You can help by:

  2. WAREHOUSE VOLUNTEER: Volunteers are needed every day of the week to work in their warehouse unpacking donated items and helping clients shop for their home. You can work just a couple of hours or find a regular shift to fill to help with this task.
  3. BE A FURNITURE MOVER ON WEEKENDS: Movers are needed weekends to help those clients move into their new homes with all of their new homegoods.

MARCH 2019:
Build a Dresser, Furnish Hope:
150th Anniversary Mission Project
Dressers are a high demand item for Home Sweet Home clients. To honor of our 150th anniversary, KUMC made a goal to build 150 IKEA dressers for Home Sweet Home to commemorate 150 years of ministry in our community and the world. Originally we thought it would take several build dates to accomplish this goal and planned to do about 3 or 4 different build dates on the Saturdays before The One Sunday services.

The first dresser build was April 6 – 7 and in memory of Chris Hendry, a former member of this church who possessed a big heart for helping those in need. The goal is to build 26 dressers for his 26 years of life. But KUMC members responded in such a big way, that 125 dressers were built in the first weekend, exceeding our goal and practically completely the entire build in one weekend.
WAY TO GO KUMC!
