Inner Wilderness

Devotional Study

Led by Pastor Katie Trinter

In this study with Pastor Katie, you will spend the season of Lent exploring the theme of the wilderness within. It is often in the places of doubt, questions, and anxiety that God’s presence becomes most real to us. We’ll draw on the work of theological thinkers such as Henry Nowen, Friedrich Bonhoeffer, Brene Brown, Richard Rohr and Jan Richardson as resources to discover the God who meets in every wilderness, including the one within ourselves.

MOVED in 2020 – Small Group
Led by Pastor Jess Horsley

Join Pastor Jess Horsley and his wife Shelly for MOVED in 2020, a new small group that will continue meeting on the first Thursday of each  month, and will meet each week during Thursday Lent Connect. This group is for anyone looking to be moved on their faith journey. The group will watch videos and perhaps even participate in Room at the Inn in mission work together. If you are looking to be MOVED in your faith, then this is the group that will challenge you to continually consider, “How am I being being Moved?

Lenten Bible Study:

Personal Encounters with Jesus on the Way to Easter

in the Gospel of John

Led by Rev. Dennis Crosson

Only in the Gospel of John do we find Jesus engaged in lengthy conversations with individuals. In the dialogues that ensue, we come to experience and know Jesus more fully than in the short, compact stories of the other three gospels. In these conversations, the writer of the fourth gospel doesn’t just tell the reader about God’s presence in Jesus, but shows us and, in so doing, gives us insight into who we are because of this Jesus.

February 27:  Revelation in the Fourth Gospel. How is God known? … John 1:1-18
March 5:  Jesus and Nicodemus … John 3:1-15
March 12:  Jesus and the Samaritan Woman … John 4:5-42
March 26: Jesus and the Man Born Blind … John 9:1-41
April 2:  Jesus and Mary, Martha and Lazarus … John 11:1-45
2020 Vision: Seeing Urban Poverty Clearly
Led by Volunteer and Service Learning Staff from LifeWise StL

In this TLC group we will look at the issues faced by those living in poverty in the urban core of our city. We will take part in an online poverty simulation and dive deeper into the topics of racial, economic and educational disparity. With our new awareness and knowledge, we will discover ways to engage, build relationships and affect significant change.

Youth  Lent Study:

The One

Led by Youth Director
Jeremy Melton

In a fractured and on-edge world, there are some who are called to unity. Unity is not always easy or intuitive. It is simply a better way. It was one of Jesus’ final prayers for us before his death. Let’s take a look at what practical wisdom scripture has to say about how we become as one.

Two books we will be using as resources: “The Genius of One” by Greg Holder, and “One” by Nick Cunningham.
